Takulandilani - Welcome to our website, which is dedicated to the Rainbow Children at St. Mary's Rehabilitation Centre, an orphanage in the small village of Chezi, Malawi! We are a group of globetrotters based in the United Arab Emirates and Germany and enjoying many of the typical luxuries the Western world has to offer. Being fond of travelling and exploring countries off the beaten tourist track Malawi was the chosen destination for the summer holiday of 2006. Knowing that one in ten Malawians is an orphaned child led to a spontaneous charity campaign among friends and colleagues at work to collect toys, stationery, clothes and cash to take with us on our trip. Through the support of our hotel in Malawi it didn’t take very long to establish contact with a group of Catholic nuns running an orphanage in Chezi, some 50 km away from the capital city of Lilongwe. After having collected and personally delivered almost US$ 3,000 in cash as well as 150 kg of toys and stationery as donations during our initial summer 2006 trip we soon decided that St. Mary's Rehabilitation Centre deserves our ongoing support rather than the spontaneous one-off campaign. The hospitality and gratitude we received from the children and Sisters during our short first visit there left us with an overwhelming sense of well-being and memories of total dedication to a worthy cause in an African country not even known to most people around us. We returned to Malawi during July 2007 with over half a tonne of donations and over US$ 6,000 and spent a full week in Chezi doing voluntary work for and with the children. Our summer 2008 trip took us to both Malawi and Ethiopia and we collected donations for the Rainbow Children in Malawi and an orphanage in Addis Ababa amounting to US$ 10,000 in cash and over 200kg of shoes, stationery and medical supplies. We currently look forward to our next trip during July, 2009. This website and our charity campaigns are our small contribution towards the little warm hearts of the less privileged children of Malawi.
